Local cross country: Lady Cards varsity get first at Shiner meet
Shiner cross country hosted the second Shiner meet at Green-Dickson Park with the field including Shiner Catholic School.
The St. Paul girls varsity highlighted city of Shiner school performances by getting first in the girls varsity 1A-2A division.
The meet served as the District 28-2A junior-high championships.
St. Paul
Varsity Girls (2 miles)
The Lady Cardinals won the 1A-2A varsity girls division with 31 points.
The Lady Cardinals got three of the top 10 spots with Skylar Mozisek winning the division with 12 minutes 55 seconds, followed by Kristen Cerny in 12:56.38. Dallyn Pesek placed seventh in 14:08.4.Sally Machacek was No. 16 in 14:40.99; Faith Brown was timed at 15:33.52 for No. 37. Clara Kinney was No. 45 in 16:15.67.
Varsity Boys (3.1 miles)
The Cardinals recorded 118 points to take sixth place in the 1A-2A Boys Varsity.
Gabe Darilek got first place in 18:31.13; Carter Chilek placed No. 22 in 22:20.14; Hunter Zella was No. 38 in 24:24.49; Levi Morkovsky was No. 43 in 24:41.84; Jacob Arriola was No. 56 in 26:41.38.
JH Girls (2 miles)
The St. Ludmila girls got ninth with 247 points.
Anna Boedeker was fourth in 13:00.22; Hannah Machacek was No. 50 in 16:01.22; Jeslyn Garrett was No. 70 with a time of 16:46. Hudson Parker placed No. 82 in 17:10.29; Wren Chilek was No. 111 with 18:17.34; Tinley Wagner was No. 125 in 19:06.65; Ellie Rodriguez was No. 132 in 19:45.51
JH Boys (2 miles)
The SLE boys got ninth with 220 points.
Luke Barton earned fourth with 11:46.84. Ryan Bays crossed the finish line at 12:19.92 for No. 13; Caleb Werner placed No. 69 in 14:19.11; Wyatt Decker was clocked at 15:01.91 for No. 92.

Varsity Girls (2 miles)
Megan Burns led Shiner with No. 13 in 14:27.94. Jo Caka was No. 27 in 15:00.09 and Jewel Caka was No. 39 in 15:44.58.
Varsity Boys (3.1 miles)
The Comanches got fourth place with 99 points.
C. Alvaro was No. 19 in 22:12.63, followed by Colin Wallace in 22:16.14. Felix Nieto was No. 29 in 23:07.69 and behind him was Gavin Wallace in 23:08.53. Hudson Koncaba was timed at 24:55.48 for No 47; Kade Matula was No. 50 in 25:27.58.
JH Girls (2 miles)
The Lady Braves won the district title with 35 points while second-place Weimar had 38 points.
Alena Winkenwerder was No. 21 in 14:49.91; Alaina Sofka was No. 37 in 15:32.82; Dawn Bishop was No. 42 in 15:41.97. Kendyl Boehm was No. 45 in 15:51.13, followed by Paisly Todd in 15:52.01. Aubrianah Schaefer was No. 61 in 16:20.38; Ellie Migl was No. 90 in 17:26.94.

The Braves got second in district with 49 points; Flatonia won the title with 40 points.

The high school 28-2A championship will be held at Green-Dickson Park on Oct. 7.
The varsity girls will run at 9 a.m., the varsity boys race is 9:30 and the junior-varsity runners will have their race at 10.
