HISD Board approves design/ development drawings for Jr. High project
The Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees met in a regular meeting Monday evening and approved the design and development drawings for renovations and expansion on the Junior High campus.
The past May, voters approved a bond to fund the project and at Monday’s meeting SZS Architecture architect Jim Singleton presented to the board the designs for the project.
In addition, Singleton informed the board of the duties of approving a construction manager for the project.
Following his presentation the board approved the request for proposals for a construction manager at risk services and also approved the presented drawings.
District Improvement Plan
The board approved the District Improvement Plan (DIP) presented by HISD executive director of student services, Trina Patek.
Patek listed the six goals and performance objectives of the plan that included infrastructure, funding, technology, accountability, staff and culture.
In addition, the ESL waiver requests, as presented by Patek, that involves English I, 7th grade, and Pre-K students, was approved by the board.
Setting Dates
The board approved a request for early release of school on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The purpose for the early release involves the district hosting UIL speaking events on the HES campus. The board also set the date for the Team of Eight training for Monday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m.
Superintendent Report
Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Bludau presented her reports that included a report on the GVEC Power-Up grant, the CTE audit report and phone service options.
Bludau also reported on the attendance at HISD for the first six weeks saying she was very pleased and was well attended.
Bludau informed the board a Veterans Day Parade will be held on Nov. 11 at 9:45 a.m.
Instructional Reports
The district’s executive director of curriculum and instruction Dr. Mandy Bucek reported on the Amplify curriculum, while Patek reported on the accountability ratings and the Teacher Allotment (TIA) report.
Financial Report
Hallettsville ISD chief financial officer Farrah Jernigan reported that 98.04% of the tax roll has been collected through September.
Following executive session, the board approved the hiring of Serena Zurovetz as a 5th grade ESL teacher.
In other action taken by the board:
• Approved innovative courses offered on the HHS campus.
• Approved the Sick Leave Bank Policy.
• Approved a resolution of CNA exhibit B regarding hazardous traffic conditions.
Board president Brian Smith presided over the meeting with board members Brian Henneke, Sharesce Sydney, Justin Smith, Ryan Bludau and Dennis Herring present for the meeting.
