Sunday fire burns 8 acres in northern Lavaca County
Firefighters from the Hallettsville VFD were called Sunday afternoon regarding a report of a fire occurring in the 962 block of CR 216.
According to a report from HVFD chief Stephen Grahmann, the call on the fire came in around at 1:08 p.m. and when they arrived they found a fast-moving fire to the north of the given address.
Grahmann said the first truck started to extinguish the fire, while the second truck started looking for an entrance to the property on CR 217.
The Schulenburg Fire Department was contacted for assistance and they sent three trucks to the scene.
“The fire came within a few feet of structures at the neighbors property,” Grahmann said. “We were able to get the fire under control and then started to extinguish the hot sports.”
Besides around 8 acres of pasture land burned in the fire, Grahmann said a dozer was also called to help move a large dry tree that was on fire.
Grahmann said the fire started on property owned by Fredrick Langenberg located on CR 216.
In the HVFD fire report, the fire was considered accidental and was caused by Langenberg burning trash in an open area. Grahmann said Langenberg was not aware that Lavaca County had implemented a burn ban.
The fire chief said most of the acreage that was burned was on property owned by Misty Sanders.
