St. Paul boys basketball: Cardinals go 2-1 at Prairie Lea tournament

The St. Paul Cardinals basketball team won two of three games in the Prairie Lea Tournament end of last week.
New Braunfels Thunder 54, St. Paul 37
Jack Ehrig hit four triples and tallied 14 points in the Cardinals’ 54-37 loss Thursday to New Braunfels Thunder.
Thunder led 13-5 after the first quarter; St. Paul went on a 19-11 run for a 24-24 tie at halftime. Thunder went on a 17-5 third quarter run to retake the lead and scored 13 of 21 points in the fourth box to put away the win.

St. Paul 45, Prairie Lea 35
St. Paul defeated Prairie Lea 45-35 in its second game on Thursday.
Ezekiel Rodriguez led St. Paul with 10 points; Tyler Pendley hit one triple and scored nine points; Sam Perez had a triple and sank eight points; Jack Ehrig netted seven points and one trey; Andrew Nunez contributed five points; Carter Chilek, Jack Leonard and Gabe Darilek each scored two points.
St. Paul 56, San Marcos Hill Country 27
Ehrig had three treys and 17 points while Rodriguez wrote in 11 points and one tres in the Cards’ 56-27 win over San Marcos Hill Country on Saturday.
St. Paul worked out a 9-8 lead after the first period and went on a 13-4 second-frame run for a 22-12 halftime lead.
St. Paul outscored Hill Country 17-12 in the third quarter and 17-3 in the fourth period.
