St. Paul baseball: SP nine go 1-2 in Flatonia tourney

The St. Paul baseball team went 1-2 in the Flatonia Tournament last weekend.
St. Paul 9, Schulenburg 8
The Cardinals scored seven runs at their first  time at bat and held off Schulenburg 9-8 to start the tournament on Thursday.
Each team scored one run in the second to keep St. Paul ahead 8-2 and repeated in the fourth inning.
The Shorthorns scored five in the top of the fifth but could not tie or take the lead.
CJ Fogle pitched four frames with three runs on two hits, one batter hit, five walks and eight strikeouts. Clay Watkins ceded four runs on one hit, one batter hit and one walk. Cody Malinovsky closed out with one inning, one hit, one run, three walk and one strikeout.
At the plate, Blaine Humes went 2-for-2, RBI, two runs, double; Joe Peters hit 2-for-3, two RBI, one run; Fogle got a home run on 1-for-3.
Brody Biehunko made four putouts in the field.

East Bernard scored seven runs in the fourth inning to add to a 4-0 lead to defeat St. Paul 11-0 on Friday.
East Bernard led 1-0 after one inning and 4-0 after two frames played.Fogle and Biehunko each went 1-for-2. Jack Leonard pitched 3 2/3 innings with 11 runs, nine hits, two batters hit, four walks and three strikeouts. Evan Rother pitched 1/3 innings with one hit.Biehunko had four putouts.

The host Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge the Cardinals 5-4 on Saturday. Flatonia took a 1-0 lead after one inning and St. Paul outscored the ‘Dogs 3-1 in the third for a 3-2 lead. Each team scored one run in the fifth inning.
At the plate for the Cardinals, Humes went 2-for-3, three RBI, double and triple.
Rodriguez pitched five innings, four hits, four runs, six walks and three strikeouts; Humes worked 2/3 innings with a run, two batters hit, a walk and four strikeouts.Fogle led the defense with seven putouts.
