Mobile home total loss in Sunday, Feb. 23 fire
A mobile home fire on Feb. 23 was a total loss according to the Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department.
According to a report from HVFD, a structure fire was called in at 12:29 p.m. on that Sunday afternoon and located at 3598 U.S. Highway 90-A East.
The HVFD report said the home was the property of Julius Williams and was occupied by Charles McAfee.
Hallettsville VFD fire chief Stephen Grahmann reported that when they arrived on the scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
While the fire was taking place the home owner, along with a passerby, were trying to move two vehicles, a Ford F250 pickup and a Chevrolet Camaro, away from the home. However, they were not able to before the fire damaged them.
“We pulled four lines from two trucks to extinguish the fire,” Grahmann said. “The fire went out quickly in the east room of the house. There was a heavy fuel load along with several tires that was located in the room. The house was a total loss.”
The HVFD report said McAfee was asleep in the house when a woman, who also resides in the home, woke him and told him the house was on fire.
The report said the two tried to extinguish the fire but was unable to put the fire out. A passerby called 911 to report the fire.
Grahmann reported five various HVFD fire fighting units arrived at the location, while the Sweet Home VFD also sent two units.
The cause of the fire was not determined and there were no injuries reported.
