Commissioners present Certificate of Achievement to DeWitt County auditor at March 10 meeting

By Clayton Kelley

A Certificate of Achievement was given to County Auditor Neomi Williams at the DeWitt County Commissioners Court meeting March 10.

“The work that is done by Neomi is phenomenal,” DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen said. “It is nice that she really concentrates on fiscal responsibility and makes the whole operation much smoother.”

The DeWitt County Annual Comprehensive Financial Report was also given from Harrison, Waldrop and Uherek L.L.P.

Commissioners also approved a Memorandum of Understanding for the purpose of establishing a partnership between the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and DeWitt County.

This is for the cooperative demonstration work in agriculture and home economics.

“We partially fund the salaries for extension agents,” Judge Daryl Fowler said. “We provide office space for the extension agency service and office supplies. This agreement was just to button that up and give some responsibilities to both parties. It’s good practice that A&M asked to have the Memorandum of Understanding written and signed so that there is no ambiguity. Every county pretty well in the state provides something for A&M Agriculture Extension. The education of 4-H and FFA is so critical to an agricultural state like Texas. We have a very vibrant 4-H group here in DeWitt County, it’s growing leaps and bounds.”

Other items on the agenda include:

• Commissioners approved the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool Insurance Renewal.

• Commissioners received recommendations from Bowen and the Jail Captain for warding proposals for food service vendors at the jail. They are using Performance Food Services, a local vendor out of Victoria.

• A permit application from Burlington Resources Oil and Gas Company LP for the installation of a temporary water line along Alfred Blaschke Road was approved.
