South Texas Polka Fest this weekend

The 44th Annual South Texas Polka and Sausage Fest will take place this weekend. All festivities are scheduled at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville.

On Friday, the Red Ravens and Vanek’s of West will perform from 6 to 11 p.m.

A dine-in or plate-togo meal of Lenten meal will be available starting at 5 p.m.

A new feature offered this year will be a Polka dance contest taking place at 8 p.m.

The contest will include one for 17 years old and under and another for 18 years and up competing.

Admission cost for Friday evening is $12 and does not include the cost of the meal.

On Saturday starting at 1 p.m and lasting until 10 p.m., three popular Polka bands will share time on the stage including The Czechaholics, Jodie Mikula and the Dujka Brothers.

A lunch meal consisting of sausage, sauerkraut, German style potatoes and kolaches will be served throughout the day, beginning at noon.

Admission to Saturday’s event is $15 per person, but does not include the cost of the meal.

Sunday’s activities will begin with a Polka Mass offered at 9 a.m. followed by the Shiner Hobo Band performing from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m.

After their performance, the Ennis Czech Boys as well as Mark Halata and Texavia will provide the music from 1 to 6 p.m.

The same type of meal offered on Saturday, and including chicken noodle soup and fried chicken will be available starting at 10:30 a.m. and served throughout the day.

A Hall of Fame ceremony will take place during the day with the Shiner Hobo Band listed to be inducted this year.

Admission on Sunday is $12 per person and does not include the meal.

A weekend pass is available at $35 per person, but does not include the cost of the meals.

Table reservations are available at $100 and include 8 drink tickets for each table reservation. Reservations can be made by contacting the Hallettsville KC Hall office.

Doors will open an hour before the music starts each day.

The public is invited to what promises to be a weekend of good music, food, entertainment and fellowship.

The South Texas Polka and Sausage Fest is sponsored by the Hallettsville K of C Council 2433 with all net proceeds benefitting the Knights of Columbus Fund for the Sacred Heart Catholic School Athletic Program.
