DeWitt Commissioners approve agreements

Agreements were approved at the DeWitt County Commissioners Court meeting on June 9. The first item approved was extending the economic development agreement between the Cuero Livestock Show Inc. and DeWitt County for a one-year term.
“We are appropriating $25,000 out of our existing budget of fiscal year 2025 for support of the Livestock Show operations out of the Ann Friar Thomas Homemaking Building,” DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler said. “This is a good thing for our community. That venue attracts a lot of people from out of town and supports the youth livestock, 4-H, FFA, soil conservation and many other things that are important to our community.”
The other agreement approved was an interlocal one between DeWitt County and the City of Victoria for the purpose of obtaining access to the City’s communications systems in order to communicate among various public safety units.
Commissioners also considered implementing a burn ban but ultimately opted not to.
“The Keetch-Byram Drought Index reading shows that our lowest point in the county is at 237,” Fowler said. “The worst point in the county is at 428 and that brings us to an average of 323, which is below the threshold of implementing a burn ban at 550.”
Commissioners also opted not to institute an aerial fireworks ban for Independence Day.
