St. Paul volleyball: Cameron Pesek helps UMHB to a 22-7 record in 2024
2022 St. Paul grad and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball right-side hitter Cameron Pesek had a pretty active year of volleyball in the 2024 season.
She played in 29 of the Lady Crusaders 30 matches and in 103 sets. UMHB went 22-8 and 4-4 in conference play, getting to the second round of the American Southwest Conference (ASC) tournament.
In the season opener, Aug. 30 against Linfield University in Portland, Ore., the Lady Crusaders won 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-22) with Pesek playing in two sets, getting two kills on six total attacks, 33.3 hitting percentage, one dig, three blocks assists, three total blocks and 3.5 points.
Later that day, the Lady Crusaders beat Pacific University 25-23, 25-19 and 25-23, and Pesek took part in two sets, had one attacking error, five total attacks, -20.0 hitting, two digs, one block assists, one total block and 0.5 points.
The next day, UMHB took on George Fox University in Newberg, Ore., winning 3-1 (26-24, 16-25, 25-15, 25-23 and she played in three sets with 10 kills, three errors on 19 attacks, 36.8 hitting, one dig and 10.0 points.
In the Lady Crusader’s second match that day, they beat Willamette University in four sets, 25-18, 24-26, 26-24, 25-16 with Pesek playing three sets with seven kills, three errors, 19 total attacks, 21.1 hitting, one dig, one solo block, one total block and 8.0 points.
On Sept. 6, UMHB defeated the College of St. Scholastica 25-16, 25-16 and 25-18 in Superior, Wis. As Pesek played in all three games with three kills, one error, nine total attacks, 22.2 hitting, one block assist, one total block and 3.5 points.
The Lady Crusaders battled University of Wisconsin-Superior later in the day, winning 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 26-24, 25-16). Pesek played four sets with nine kills, three errors, 18 attacks, 33.3 hitting, three digs and 9.0 points.
The next day, UMHB defeated Martin Luther College 25-21, 25-13 and 25-17; Pesek played three sets, five kills, two errors, 10 attacks, 30.0 hitting and 5.0 points.
The Lady Crusaders closed out the day with a 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22 win over Hamline University. In that match, she played in four sets, with four kills, four errors, 27 total attacks, 0.0 hitting, one assist, three block assists, three total blocks and 3.5 points.
UMHB opened ASC play at home on Sept. 10 against Howard Payne University, winning 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21) with Pesek playing in four sets, 10 kills, three errors, 18 attacks, 38.9 hitting, three digs, one solo block, four block assists, five total blocks and 13.0 points.
The Lady Crusaders hosted Hardin-Simmons University in the second conference game, winning in five (25-17, 25-17, 20-25, 21-25, 15-8). Pesek competed in four sets with seven kills, two errors, 23 attacks, 8.7 hitting, one dig, one solo block, three block assists, three total blocks and 9.0 points.
The next day, UMHB hosted Hendrix College, winning in a 25-15, 25-17 and 25-20 sweep. Pesek played three sets, four kills, one error, 11 total attacks, 27.3 hitting, two digs, three total blocks and 5.5 points.
Later in the day, the Lady Crusaders won 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22 against the University of Dallas with Pesek playing three sets, five kills, one error, 15 attacks, 26.7 hitting, one dig, one block assist, one total block and 5.5 points.
On Sept. 14, UMHB played University of St. Thomas (Texas) at home, winning 25-16, 10-26, 25-21, 25-23 and Pesek took part in four sets, getting seven kills, two errors, 25 total attacks, 20.0 hitting, two digs, two block assists, two total blocks and 8.0 points.
Later that day, the Lady Crusaders played Southwestern University, falling 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 with Pesek playing three sets with five kills, six errors, 19 attacks, -5.3 hitting, two digs, four block assists, four total blocks and 4.5 points.
On Sept. 21 in Conway, Ark., UMHB played Concordia University (Texas), getting a sweep (25-21, 25-16, 25-20). Pesek played in three sets with four kills, two errors, 15 attacks, 13.3 hitting, one dig, one solo block, one total block and 5.0 points.
In its second match that day, the Lady Crusaders played Hendrix College and won in five, 23-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-21 and 16-14. She played in all five games, with two kills, three errors, 15 attacks, -6.7 hitting, 1 solo block, three block assists, four total blocks and 4.5 points.
The Lady Crusaders closed out the weekend the next day with a 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-28, 15-10) win over Rhodes College. Pesek played three sets, six kills, 12 attacks, 50.0 hitting, one assist, one dig, one solo block, two block assists, three total blocks and 8.0 points.
On Sept. 27, UMHB returned to conference play at East Texas Baptist University, coming up short in four sets, 20-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-18. Pesek competed in three sets, one kill, one error, 11 attacks, 0.0 hitting, one dig, one block error, one block assist, one total block and 1.5 points.
The next day, the Lady Crusaders played at LeTourneau University, falling short in four games, 19-25, 25-19, 27-25 and 25-21. Pesek played in four sets, had 12 kills, two errors, 24 attacks, 41.7 hitting, three digs, three block assists, one block error, three total blocks and 13.5 points.
UMHB played at UT Dallas on Oct. 4, winning 11-25, 27-25, 16-25, 25-16 and 15-13. Pesek played five sets with 10 kills, two errors, 22 attacks, 36.4 hitting, one dig, three block assists, three total blocks and 11.5 kills.
On Oct. 11, the Lady Crusaders resumed conference action at Hardin-Simmons, losing in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-22). Pesek played three sets, nine kills, six errors, 25 attacks, 12.0 hitting, one dig, three block assists, three total blocks and 10.5 points. The next day, UMHB visited Howard Payne, winning 17-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-20. Pesek took part in four games, had seven kills, one error, 16 attacks, 37.5 hitting, two block assists, one block error, two total blocks and 8.0 points.
On Oct. 18, the Lady Crusaders hosted East Texas Baptist, losing 25-21, 25-17, 25-18. Pesek played in three sets, had five kills, one error, 11 attacks, 36.4 hitting, one dig, two block assists, two total blocks and 6.0 points.
UMHB played at home to LeTourneau University the next day, winning in four (25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21). Pesek saw action in four sets, had six kills, seven errors, 24 attacks, -4.2 hitting, two block assists, one block error, two total blocks and 7.0 points.
On Oct. 23, the Lady Crusaders played at Schreiner University in a non-conference match, coming up short, 25-22, 25-21, 24-26,25-21. Pesek played four sets, had eight kills, three errors, 33 attacks, 15.2 hitting, four digs and 8.0 points.
UMHB swept UT Dallas 25-19, 26-24, 25-22 on the road Oct. 25 with Pesek playing in three sets, nine kills, two errors, 24 attacks, 29.2 hitting, one dig and 9.0 points.
Pesek played four sets with seven kills, seven errors, 33 attacks, 0.0 hitting, two digs, two solo blocks, two total blocks and 9.0 points in a 25-17, 10-25, 25-10, 25-18 win at University of St. Thomas (Texas).
The Lady Crusaders opened the ASC Tournament in Marshall against Hardin-Simmons Nov. 15, winning 3-2 (25-23, 27-25, 23-25, 22-25, 15-12). Pesek played in five sets, seven kills, six errors, 22 attacks, 4.5 hitting, one setting error, one dig, three block assists, three total blocks and 8.5 points.
UMHB concluded the season the next day against East Texas Baptist University, coming up short in five sets, 16-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-27, 19-17. Pesek played in all five games with 12 kills, seven errors, 35 attacks, 14.3 hitting, one dig, one solo block, three block assists, four total blocks and 14.5 points.
Total stats for Pesek in the 2024 season: 103 sets played, 29 matches played, 22-7 record, 183 kills, 1.83 kills a set, 85 errors, 546 total attacks, 17.9 hitting, two assists. 0.2 assists per set, 40 digs, 0.39 digs a set, nine solo blocks, 51 block assists, 60.0 total blocks, 0.58 blocks a set,four block errors, 217.0 points and 2.11 points per set.
Her season highs were 12 kills vs East Texas Baptist, on Nov. 16 in the ASC tournament; one assist against Rhodes Sept. 22; 14.5 points Nov. 16 against East Texas Baptist; four digs Oct. 23 at Schreiner, and five total blocks Sept. 10 against Howard Payne.
