Pesticide applicator course offered Sept. 25

The Lavaca County Agri-Life extension office has announced that a pesticide applicators recertification course is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25.

Sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Lavaca County, the course will take place at the Hallettsville KC Hall with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. The program will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

The cost of the course is $20 per person and will allow private, commercial, and noncommercial applicators the opportunity to earn five CEUs. Pre-registration is not required.

The course will include speakers and topics:

• An update on Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) laws and regulations by Dr. Mark Matocha, Extension Program Specialist.

• Integrated approach to livestock predator management by Jacob Hetzel, Texas Wildlife Services

• Parasite management for cattle by Dr. Thomas Hairgrove, Extension Livestock Specialist.

• Forage insect pest identification and management by Dr. Jose Santiago-Gonzalez, Extension Entomologist.

• New world screw worm biology and update by Dr. Sonja Swiger, Extension Entomologist.
