Irene Shimek

Irene Zwerschke Petru Shimek, 91, of Yoakum, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by family. 
She was born March 18, 1934, in Shiner, to Herbert and Clementine Schneider Zwerschke.
She worked at Tex Tan Leather Company and Torel Leather Company.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, crocheting, yardwork and volunteering with the Pink Ladies.
Survivors include daughters, Katherine Jendrzey and Linda Hagan (Dennis); grandchildren, Christopher Jendrzey (Elizabeth), Heath Hagan and Chance Hagan (Alyssa); great-grandchildren, Aubrie Jendrzey, Colby Jendrzey, Cheyenne Hagan, Presley Hagan, Kyle Hagan and Bethany Hagan.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Eugene Petru and Johnnie Shimek; her parents; grandson, Colby Aaron Jendrzey; son-in-law, David Jendrzey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Inez Marburger (Julius) and La Joyce Pustka (Matt).
A rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 9, with Funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld officiating.  
Burial followed at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Christopher Jendrzey, Colby Jendrzey, Chance Hagan, Heath Hagan, Glenn Pustka and Kevin Pustka.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church or donor’s choice.
