Migl is National 4-H Shooting Sports Muzzleloading Champion
Aaron Migl, recent graduate of Shiner High School, finished as the top muzzleloader shooter in the nation in Grand Island, Nebraska the last week of June at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championship.
This was Aaron’s 4th trip to compete at nationals, but 4-H shooters are only allowed to compete in each discipline once. Fortunately, he was selected for his favorite, muzzleloader, his final year. There were 77 muzzleloading competitors from 22 states.
On the first day of competition, Aaron tied the first place score, but got second due to the tiebreaker in the 50 yard bullseye event. The second day, he placed first in the 25 yard bottles and critters targets and on the final day of competition, he placed first in silhouettes. Each day he shot a personal record.
He finished as the top muzzleloader shooter of the championship and led his four person team to two firsts and a second to secure the team muzzleloading title for Texas.
For four years, winning muzzleloading at nationals has been Aaron’s goal. He put in many hours of practice to perfect the right amount of powder, patch size, ball size and best aperture for the seven different targets and distances he shoots.
This is Aaron’s 9th and final year to compete in 4-H shooting sports.
Andrew Marcak of Shiner has mentored Aaron in muzzleloading from Aaron’s first shot, and Aaron had the privilege of Andrew being the muzzleloader coach for the Texas team his final year. He definitely went out with a bang.
Aaron is the son of Alan and Christie Migl of Shiner, and the grandson of Adolph and Agnes Migl of Shiner, and Rita Arlitt of Yoakum.
