St. John Picnic Saturday

The 138th annual St. John the Baptist Catholic Church picnic will take place Saturday, with activities occurring on the church’s grounds located at 7026 FM 957.

A Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. and a flag raising ceremony will follow at 10 a.m. to kick things off. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

The traditional picnic lunch, of fried chicken, homemade stew and trimmings will be available starting at 10:30 a.m.

The cost for both dine-in, or take home plates is $14 per plate.

The picnic does not have a drive through line and those preferring to take home lunch plates are suggested to park, purchase their meal tickets at the ticket booth, and stand in the take-out line to pick up their plates.

Starting at 10:30 a.m., and for the remainder of the day and evening, a free dance under the pavilion will take place with music provided by the Dujka Brothers, Red Ravens, Mark Halata and Texavia and the Fender Bender Band.

The auction begins at 12:30 p.m. and a country store as well as a cake walk, ball throw, ring toss, “lil diggers” sand pile, prize walk and more entertainment will be available for throughout the day.

Also, hamburgers and other food items as well as cold drinks and sno-cones will be available during the day and evening.

A prize give-away drawing will take place at 7 p.m. and a Fourth of July fireworks show will take place at 9:30 p.m.

The parish welcomes everyone to come out for a day that promises to be fun for all.
