After hearing from Lavaca County EMS assistant chief/Lavaca County Fire Chiefs Association liaison Tim Decker at its Tuesday morning, April 14, meeting, the commissioners’ court voted to lift the burn ban in the county.

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in a brief special-called meeting Monday morning and ratified the burn ban order installed by County Judge Keith Mudd on March 30.

With the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) average for Lavaca County having risen over the past weeks and current weather conditions creating a potential for wildfires, County Judge Keith Mudd issued an executive order Monday morning, March 30 calling for a burn ban for the county.

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in a regular meeting Monday morning and after hearing from Lavaca County EMS assistant chief and the county’s Fire Chief Association liaison, Tim Decker agreed to keep the burn ban off.

The DeWitt County Commissioners approved a burn ban at the Aug. 25 meeting.The Keetch-Byram Drought Index determines whether or not a burn ban should be instituted. “The Keetch Byram Index shows the average is at 546,” DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler said.
