Founders’ Invitational Rodeo happens this weekend

The sights and sounds of yesteryear will be heard this weekend as the 9th annual Texas State Championship High School Rodeo Founders’ Invitational will take place at the William and Alton Allen Exposition Center in Hallettsville this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14-15.

There was a time back in the early 1980s when I sort of fancied myself a rodeo photographer. A big, nasty bull soon put an end to my macho ideas of working inside the arena; I bought a telephoto lens and stayed as far away as possible.

Shiner Catholic School freshman Audrey Thibodeaux of Shiner became the new Texas Junior High Rodeo Finals and State Pole Bending Champion at the state finals held last month at Gonzales’ J.B. Wells Park, Arena and Expo Center.
