Shiner firemen could use your help!

A busy summer fighting fires and answering calls all around our area has them needing to get together for a good old fashioned barbecue fundraiser to lift some spirits and raise some needed funds for the Shiner Fire Department. They’ll be getting together bright and early Sunday, Sept.

In addition to an increased department-wide emphasis on training efforts and them all working full time day jobs as well, Shiner firemen have been running hard during this hot, dry summer, either putting out their own fires or helping other agencies beat back theirs. So, just how bad is it?

Train derails in Shiner

As many as a dozen rail cars overturned in Shiner just before 7 p.m. Friday, shutting down all traffic on U.S 90A and spilling several tons of coal in the downtown area.
