Yoakum softball: Lady Dogs softball beat Industrial, fall to Hallettsville over spring break

The Lady Bulldogs split spring-break district games against Hallettsville, Industrial. Hallettsville 5, Yoakum 2 The Lady Brahmas plated two runs in the fifth inning and scored one run in sixth frame to turn a 2-2 tie into a 5-2 win March 14 in Hallettsville.

Yoakum girls basketball:Phillips, Fojt headline Yoakum All-District girls hoops awards

Several Lady Yoakum basketball players received 25-3A All District awards. Jayana Phillips and Olivia Fojt each got First Team. Destiny Rios and Samantha Adamek got Second Team. Addison Pekar got Honorable Mention.

Yoakum boys basketball:Jones, Harrison make First Team All-District

Plenty of 25-3A All District awards were handed out to Yoakum Bulldog players. Jayden Jones made First Team; Gage Harrison was chosen as 6th Man and X’Zavier Barnett received Second Team. Corey Gome, Kade Giese, Jamar Hopkins, Austin Novosad and AJ Adamek received Honorable Mention.

The Yoakum baseball team went 1-1 during spring break with both games having a final margin of one run. Hallettsville 5, Yoakum 4 The Bulldogs took rival Hallettsville to extra innings before the Brahmas scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the eighth.

Yoakum track and field: Yoakum track and field team at Cuero last week

The Yoakum track and field team competed in the Jack Adcock Gobbler Relays last Thursday Varsity Girls 100 — 9th, Olivia Fojt, 13.94. 200 — 2nd, Jayana Phillips, 26.57; 7th, Jayla Hessler, 27.78; 12th, Fojt, 28.57. 800 — 3rd, Cameron Williams, 2:39.26. 300 Hurdles — 5th, Aubrie Jendrzey, 52.16.

Yoakum softball: Yoakum gets two wins, two loses in Flatonia Tournament

The Yoakum softball team went 2-2 last Thursday through Saturday at the Flatonia Tournament. Yoakum 6, Flatonia 0 Madisen Grant and Stephanie Oviedo each had a home run in the Lady Dogs’ 6-0 shutout of Flatonia Thursday in the Flatonia Tournament.

Yoakum softball: Yoakum slams Rice with two dozen runs

It was a deluge of hits and runs for the Yoakum softball team March 7 at Rice Consolidated with 25 runs on 25 hits. The Lady ‘Dogs scored 12 runs in the first inning, brought in 10 runs in the second and scored a trio of runs in the third frame.

Yoakum baseball: Yoakum over Rice 14-0

Jayden Jones went 3-for-3 and scored three runs as Yoakum pounded Rice 14-0 March 7 in Rice. Wyatt Hanzelka pitched a three-hit shutout with one walk and five strikeouts. Yoakum went up 1-0 in the top of the second, scored five in the third, two in the fourth and six more in the fifth.

Yoakum girls soccer: Lady Bulldogs get tie with Lady Rockets after second-half Jendrzey go

With under 23 minutes left in the game, Yoakum junior Aubrie Jendrzey found herself on a quick breakaway and faced down San Antonio John F. Kennedy’s keeper.

Yoakum boys soccer: Yoakum loses close game to JFK 1-0

The Yoakum Bulldogs soccer team gave a good fight but still came up short. Yoakum hosted San Antonio John F. Kennedy on March 7 and the Rockets made a first-half goal stand in a 1-0 win. It was different from the game in San Antonio that ended in a 7-0 win for the Rockets.
