Runners get ready for upcoming Dash for Downs

The Yoakum Shape Shop is preparing for the 12th Annual Dash for Downs (DFD) 5K Fun Run. The fun run will be on May 11 at 8 a.m. and participants will be running through downtown Yoakum.The money raised from this run will be benefiting the Down Syndrome Foundation of South Texas.

HISD, City Bond elections Saturday

Early voting in the Hallettsville ISD bond election ended Tuesday and the general election will take place this Saturday, May 4.Voters wishing to cast their ballot can do so from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lavaca County Annex Building located at 412 N. Texana St. in Hallettsville.

Scorpions: A creature that can lurk in homes

The eight leg creature with pincers at its head and stinger on its tail, known as a scorpion, has been on the move lately with many citing them crawling in their homes. What an eerie sight to see and certainly is not pleasant when one of these annoying creatures stings you.

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The day, which falls on Friday, May 5 in 2023, is also known as Battle of Puebla Day.

Fiddlers Frolics names ‘new’ Texas State Fiddle Champion

The third time wasn’t a charm for the defending state fiddling champion Carl Hopkins of Porter, who came to Hallettsville last week looking for the three-peat, having won that coveted No. 1 position the last two consecutive years running.

City enters into agreement with Cemetery Association

The Moulton City Council has entered an interlocal agreement between the city and the Moulton City Cemetery Association, Inc. at the April 9 meeting."This is for the cemetery association and the only change we have in place for this concerns illegal dumping,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said.
