Court designates April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in its regular meeting Monday and designated April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Yoakum reviewing applications for new city manager

Officials of the City of Yoakum have been making some headway on the search for a new city manager.Within the past six months, Yoakum has gone through two city managers. Both former city managers, Kevin Coleman and William Linn, were relieved of their duties.

Sweet Home ISD issues first bond for the school

Sweet Home ISD (SHISD) will be issuing a bond to be on the May ballot. Voters will be able to decide if this bond passes on election day on May 4. Early voting begins April 22.This bond stemmed from a facilities assessment meeting which happened in July last year.

Rain continues in March

Rainfall in March reached 4.62 inches with several good downpours hitting the area. Rain fell on eight days led by 2.43 inches on the 21st. For the year Hallettsville has received 17.55 inches which is 7.68 inches above normal.

Local woman loses life in two-vehicle crash

A young local woman lost her life in a two-vehicle crash near Bryan on Sunday, March 24.According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Alyssa Schoeneman, 22, of Hallettsville was killed in the accident that took place on OSR, north of Bryan, around 11:20 a.m.

Msgr. Peters inducted into South Texas Polka Hall of Fame

The 6th Annual South Texas Polka Hall of Fame ceremony was held Sunday afternoon, March 24 with Sacred Heart Catholic Church pastor, Msgr. John Peters inducted into the HOF.Born in Schulenburg on October 14, 1948, Msgr. John attended and graduated from St. Michael’s School in Weimar, Msgr.

Spring is here and the pleasant weather that comes with it is an excellent time for snakes to start making their appearance, which results in a greater chance of being bitten by one of these unwanted serpents.

Chamber requests route change

In a very brief agenda, the Shiner Chamber of Commerce made a couple of requests to Shiner City Council members at the April 1 meeting.One of these regards changing the parade entries lineup for Shiner Half Moon Holidays.
