Moulton PD: The world could use more Jimmy Bryans

Yoakum’s historical Black cemetery approved for clean up project

The Yoakum Colored Cemetery is the resting place of several generations of the region’s most influential African American citizens. However, years of overgrowth and debris from the adjacent municipal waste facility have rendered the land unrecognizable as a site of such historical significance.

City to cover first responder training fees

In an attempt to attract entry-level first responders during a severe staffing shortage, the Yoakum City Council approved a policy to fund the training costs for new police and firefighters/EMTs last Tuesday.

Powering Up the Pool 

GVEC recently donated a $20,000 Power Up Grant to the Lavaca Swimming Pool to help the local nonprofit wrap up its construction of its splash pad water park addition at the local swimming pool as well as make a few other improvements around the historic complex.

Council taps city’s ARPA funds for new police gear, computers

Shiner council members on Monday agreed to use some of the roughly $89,000 that remains of the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funding to buy a few needed items for the local police department.  Shiner Police Chief Kevin Kelso went before the council Monday, Nov.

Waelder fundraiser planned for Shiner disc golf course

Shiner residents will be headed to the big city of Waelder on Sunday, Nov. 20, as Team Justice holds a benefit disc golf tournament to raise funds for the permanent disc golf course installation planned in Shiner’s Green Dickson Park. The tournament runs 8 a.m. to noon at The Ranch in Waelder.
