As few as two votes in one race and five in another is all that separated the winners from the losers Saturday in Yoakum’s first contested city council race in a couple decades, unofficial election night returns showed.

One of the contestants gives his all at the 2019 Songwriter Serenade, held inside the Moravia Catholic Church Parish Hall that year. The event will be just a few miles up FM 957 this year, at the much more spacious, covered outdoor pavilion found at St. John Community. Performances start at 11. a.m.

Students from more than a dozen districts gathered at the Yoakum Bulldog Stadium for the first DeWitt-Lavaca Special Olympics in three years on Friday, May 6.
Friday’s event started with an opening ceremony that welcomed students from DeWitt, Lavaca, Victoria and Gonzales Counties students.
