Moulton ISD starts new school year, Thursday, Aug. 13

Moulton ISD officially started this year’s school term with new staff members having workdays this Wednesday and Thursday and BTS workdays set for Aug. 7 through Aug. 12.Classes will begin on Thursday, Aug. 13 as MISD students return for the 2026-27 school year.

Moulton Moves Forward with Massive Street Improvements and Infrastructure Upgrades

The city of Moulton has been making some headway with its street improvements project as well as other projects.“We try to improve our streets on an annual basis,” Council member Craig Hughes said. “In the past years, we have focused primarily on our north/south running streets like Main Street.

Cox named Yoakum High School principal

An educator with roots in Yoakum and Shiner will be the new High School Principal at the Yoakum Independent School District.Jill Cox is being promoted from the former Junior High School Principal to High School Principal.“The staff at Yoakum High School are amazing,” Cox said.

Splash pad coming soon

Many residents have been asking for it, but the new splash pad at the City Park will be coming soon. This is included within the Texas Parks and Wildlife grant the city passed more than a year ago.

July rains total 2.62 inches

July’s rain total fell near the average mark following two months which produced over 17 inches, and was much welcomed.For the month rain totaled 2.62 inches, which sent the year’s total to 30.09 inches. Rain fell on nine days, with the heaviest of 0.59 falling on the eleventh.

Counterfeit bills in use in the area

The Hallettsville Police Department is advising local businesses and anyone accepting cash payments to use extra caution when accepting $100 bills.This comes after the Hallettsville Police Department received reports of counterfeit $100 bills being circulated in the community.

Kolkhorst to speak to local club

LC inmate airlifted after injury in Jail

An inmate experienced a medical emergency while housed at the Lavaca County Jail, according to the Lavaca County Sheriff ’s Office.Lavaca County Jail staff were notified that a male inmate was unconscious inside a housing dormitory on Saturday, July 25.
