Preserving History: Shiner Palace Saloon and Ehlers Cigar Factory earn Historical Markers

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has recognized the Palace Saloon and Café and the Ehlers Cigar Factory as a significant part of Texas history by awarding them an official Texas Historical Marker. The Dickson-Allen Foundation gave the THC grant money to pay for the markers.

Shiner Rotary Club participates in annual Texas Ramp Project

The Shiner Rotary Club in conjunction with the Texas Ramp Project built a handicapped wheelchair accessible ramp for an individual in June. The Texas Ramp Project is a non-profit organization that builds over 2,400 ramps a year.

Stranded campers return home safe after flooding in Kerrville

Youth camp members of Shiner Lutheran Church were stranded this past weekend at Camp Chrysalis near Kerrville. Parents were unable to cross the bridge to get to them, but all made it back safely.

Council discusses mosquito spraying

The Shiner City Council discussed potential mosquito spraying for the city at the July 7 meeting. Sergeant Chris Kalina suggested the idea to help alleviate officers who are working or patrolling outside. “It’s a major distraction,” Kalina said.
