June sees several rounds of heavy rain

Slow-moving thunderstorms visited the city and county setting the stage for flooding rainfall totaling 5.18 inches on the fifth and 2.40 inches on the 15th.June rang up a 9.12 inch total, with rain falling on 14 days. The amount was the heaviest since 21.

The Emotions held a historic anniversary performance at the Spoetzl Brewery Fourth of July weekend. They are celebrating 50 years as a band. It is a nostalgic moment as the band’s first performance was also on Fourth of July in 1976 at the Shiner KC Hall. Pictured (at top) is Mark Hybner with the band. Pictured at the bottom are both old and new members of The Emotions. The Emotions have had as many as 11 members in the band at one time. At the Brewery, five of the original seven members were in attendance.

Several criminal cases were resolved during a July 6 session of Lavaca County District Court. Judge William D. Old III presided over a trial announcement docket.According to the Lavaca County Attorney’s Office, five cases were set on the trial docket.

Moravia picnic on tap for July 19
