St. Paul volleyball: Edna alum, experienced club coach Hudson running St. Paul VB

First-year St. Paul volleyball coach Taylor Hudson has spent a good chunk of her life since either playing or coaching volleyball.
She had an extensive playing career during her public-school years and began coaching club volleyball during college and after. Hudson said she believes in helping her athletes become the best ladies they can, on the volleyball court and off of it.
“I believe in holding my players accountable, pushing them to reach their full potential, and creating an environment that is competitive while still allowing them to enjoy the game,” she said. “Winning is important, but so is teaching discipline, teamwork, leadership, confidence, and responsibility. Ultimately, I want my players to leave my program as better volleyball players, but more importantly, as stronger and more confident young women.”
When she had the chance to check out her new team to coach, she saw lots of potential and talents in the Lady Cardinals, who have advanced to two straight TAPPS 2A state tournaments.
“My first impression of the SP volleyball program was that there is a lot of talent and potential within the program,” Hudson said.  “This season, one of our biggest focuses will be developing more consistency and building the girls’ confidence—not only in their volleyball abilities, but also in themselves. I want them to recognize what they are capable of and learn to trust themselves and each other on the court.”
Hudson graduated from nearby Edna High School in 2016 and competed in volleyball, basketball and track. She also played club volleyball, playing volleyball year round.  In her high school and club careers, Hudson has played outside hitter, middle hitter and right-side hitter.  After high school, Hudson attended Victoria College and is continuing her education through Texas A&M University Victoria.  “ I did not play collegiate volleyball, but volleyball has remained a major part of my life through coaching,” she said.
St. Paul is Hudson’s first high-school coaching position but she is a very experienced club coach. “I coached club volleyball with Texas Storm for five years and Industrial Intensity for two years. I currently coach club volleyball with Southern Swing, where I coach the 16s age group,” she said.
