Larry Valis

Larry Valis, 59, of Shiner, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 20, 2026, surrounded by his wife and family.
He was born on December 27, 1966, in Shiner, to Frank Valis Sr. and Myrtle Jones.
Larry attended Shiner High School and graduated with the class of 1986. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army, where he served for several years and was stationed in Europe.
After his military service, Larry moved to Gonzales, where he served as an Animal Control Officer for the City of Gonzales for 22 years. 
A lifelong lover of animals, Larry dedicated much of his career to their care and well-being. He was a hard worker who could always be counted on and was willing to lend a hand whenever someone needed help.
After retiring from the City of Gonzales, he returned to Shiner and continued working as an Animal Control Officer until his illness prevented him from continuing the work he loved.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Valis; son, Brian Valis; stepsons, Otto Ivey and Darrell Ivey Jr.; stepdaughter, MaryAnn Ivey; brothers, Frank Jr., Willie, Jerry, Bubba and Donny; and sisters, Kay Villalpando, May (Brad) Pritchett, Andrea (Terry) Wyatt and Michelle (Michael) Vrana.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Valis Sr., and his mother, Myrtle Jones.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at a later date.
