Shiner, St. Paul football: Comanches host Danbury in district opener; Cardinals are off
The Shiner Comanches conclude a two-game home stand with their first district game while the Cardinals have a bye this Friday.
Danbury at Shiner
The Comanches (4-0) will kick off 15-2ADI play this week by hosting the 2-2 Danbury Panthers. Danbury has defeated Sabine Pass 50-8 and Louise 24-20 while losing to Garrison 55-0 and Bay Area Christian 49-14. The Panthers are scoring 22.0 points a game and are allowing 33 points per game.
The Comanches have averaged 28.75 points per game in non district and have ceded just 10 points a game.
Key players for the Panthers are WR-DB Ruben Guzman, QB-DB Cash Lamb, OL-DL Mark Tomlinson, QB-LB Cameron Price and WR-DB Andrew Palacios.
“They are going to run the spread on offense and they will mix up the run and the pass. Their quarterback is one of their best offensive players and he runs the ball well. They also have a receiver on the edge,” Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. “We need to get pressure on the quarterback and stop the run.”
Danbury runs a 5-2 on defense that could shift into 5-3 at times.
“We have to stay on our blocks and take good steps to be in a good position,” Boedeker said.
St. Paul off this week
The Cardinals have an open date this Friday after a 60-0 win at Katy St. John XXIII last week. St. Paul is back in action Oct. 3 as they host Houston Northland Christian in the district opener and that is also Homecoming 2026.
