The St. Paul Cardinals came close to getting a win in the season opener at Houston KIPP Sunnyside but KIPP scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to win 30-23.The Cardinals opened scoring in the first quarter with a 22-yard touchdown run by Jace Matias for a 7-0 lead.

The Shiner Comanches came within 22 seconds of getting their first win against Hallettsville since 2021.The Brahmas had other ideas as quarterback Mycole Pegoda scrambled for a 6-yard touchdown and Tradyn Williams had a two-point run to put the visitors ahead 22-15 with 22 seconds left in the game.

The Yoakum boys took third to highlight the cross-country team’s races at the Karnes City Invitational Aug. 24.VARSITY BULLDOGSThe Bulldogs recorded 79 points for the bronze.Aiden Alvarez was the top finisher with fifth place in 14 minutes, 38.88 seconds and a pace of 4:53 per mile.
