St Paul gains tie for first place

The Sacred Heart Indianettes suffered their first TAPPS District 5 Division loss to St. Paul, 38-36, in the SH Gym Monday night. Missed free throws and turnovers were to blame for the loss. The Indianettes were a mere 7 of 27 from the free-throw line and the teams combined for 50 turnovers.

The Sacred Heart Indians made it seven TAPPS District Division IV district wins in a row with a 58-46 beating of St. Paul here Monday night. The Indians led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter after Nic Angerstein scored on two treys and Andrew Steffek hit 9.

The 2024-2026 alignments for each sport for St. Paul were released last November. Some notable changes are the St. Paul baseball team will be part of a 10-team district that spans from Victoria to Waco; St. Paul football will be in a six-team district with schools in Temple and Houston.

Frances Filip scored 11 points to lead the St. Paul Lady Cardinals JV to a 50-5 rout of San Marcos Hill Country on Jan. 30. St. Paul led 10-0 after the initial quarter and outscored Hill County 12-4 for a 22-4 halftime lead.

The Lady Cardinals were unable to overcome an 18-10 halftime deficit and fell short to Austin Waldorf 31-25 Friday at home. It was the Lady Cardinals first district loss, putting them at 8-1 and 15-7 overall. Brooke Cerny sank 11 points to lead St. Paul in the scorebook.

Morgan Lenehan hit a pair of triples and tallied 19 points to lead the Shiner girls to a 51-14 win at Schulenburg on Friday. Shiner led 18-0 after the first quarter and posted 22-2 halftime lead.

St. Paul defeated Austin Waldorf and lost to Austin San Juan Diego in back-to-back games last Friday and Saturday. St. Paul 42, AW 22 Jack Ehrig hit 13 points and Sam Perez deposited 11 points as the Cardinals reversed an earlier loss to Austin Waldorf with a 42-22 win on Friday. St.
