Yoakum baseball: Yoakum over Rice 14-0

Jayden Jones went 3-for-3 and scored three runs as Yoakum pounded Rice 14-0 March 7 in Rice. Wyatt Hanzelka pitched a three-hit shutout with one walk and five strikeouts. Yoakum went up 1-0 in the top of the second, scored five in the third, two in the fourth and six more in the fifth.

With under 23 minutes left in the game, Yoakum junior Aubrie Jendrzey found herself on a quick breakaway and faced down San Antonio John F. Kennedy’s keeper.

Yoakum boys soccer: Yoakum loses close game to JFK 1-0

The Yoakum Bulldogs soccer team gave a good fight but still came up short. Yoakum hosted San Antonio John F. Kennedy on March 7 and the Rockets made a first-half goal stand in a 1-0 win. It was different from the game in San Antonio that ended in a 7-0 win for the Rockets.

Yoakum powerlifting: Bergman ninth at regional powerlifting

Bulldog powerlifter River Bergman competed in the regional powerlifting meet Friday at West Hardin High School. He placed ninth.

Yoakum baseball: Yoakum ties with Bears in LG Tournament

The Yoakum Bulldogs baseball tied one and lost two last week in the La Grange Tournament. Yoakum 5, La Vernia 5 The Bulldogs’ second game with La Vernia in six days went a lot better. Yoakum and the Bears battled to a 5-5 tie Thursday morning in the La Grange Tournament.

Yoakum golf: Bulldogs compete at Cuero Tournament

Yoakum golfers took part in the Cuero Tournament last week. Girls Kylie Saenz carded a 124; Lucy Watters had a 126; Brynlee McCoy carded a 129; Kyleigh Powell had a 130 and Gracyn Wolf booked a 131. The Lady ‘Dogs had a 509 team score. Boys Eli Cook scored a 107 and Luke Helweg recorded a 122.  

Area youth sports:Shiner Comanche 11U wins tournament

The Shiner Comanche 11U Baseball Team traveled to San Antonio Feb 25-26 to play in the TSBI Baseball tournament. The Comanches won the championship game by a score of 8-1.  The 11U team finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.

Shiner track and field:Shiner teams win sixth in Goliad

The Shiner track and field teams were at the Goliad Shirley Frank Relays on Thursday. Results are finals only Varsity Girls Shiner placed sixth with 59 points. 400 Relay — 4th, Shiner (Jaleah Curtis, Lauren Faldyn, JaMya Wright, Hayleigh Burns), 53.17. 100 Hurdles — 2nd, Brooke Palmer, 17.

St. Paul golf: SP golfers win double at Yoakum

Both St. Paul golf teams took first place in the Yoakum Tournament last week. Girls The Lady Cards had a team score of 428. Courtney Tuch placed first with 96 and Anna Reeves followed with 101. Riley Mozisek tied for fourth with 107. Mary Sue Filip was No.

St. Paul softball: Lady Cards post 3-1 mark at Burton Tournament

The Lady Cardinals won three of four games in the Burton Tournament last week. Hempstead 6, St. Paul 5 Hempstead scored six runs in the first two innings and it was enough to see them get past St. Paul 6-5 on Thursday.
