Newspapers from the past are a great source for historical data. I’ve alluded to this fact many times before and still hold the opinion that the aged articles found in newspapers hold more truthful information than we get from some would-be historians.

Get ready; hummingbirds are here

When I started to research the subject of hummingbirds, I had no idea of the number of species of this little bird - one source writes that there are at least 300 species world-wide. The number of types in Texas can vary from 9 to 18 - depending on where you get your information.

Spoetzl Brewery makes generous donation to Shiner Hobo Band

Spoetzl Brewery donated $4,000 to help support the Shiner Hobo Band. The funds assist the cost of operating the bus, auto and liability insurance, and promoting the band.

Garden series continues in San Antonio

According to an article located on the Texas A&M AgriLife webpage, the Brown Thumb project will continue to offer classes March 8 through May 10 in San Antonio. The event is designed to help Texans become more proficient in gardening and landscaping the “Earth-Kind” way.

Shiner FFA Stock Show this Friday

The Annual Shiner FFA Stock Show will be held at Kaspar Pavilion in Green-Dickson Municipal Park on Friday, March 3. Weigh in will be from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Judging will start at 9 a.m. for the four categories of broilers, swine, sheep, and cattle. The sale will be Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
