Schulenburg Festival

The annual Schulenburg Festival, known as the “National Party of Texas” will take place this weekend with the majority of activities taking place at Wolters Park.

Organizers of the event have lined up a vast assortment of activities to enjoy ranging from live continuous music, carnival, rodeo, cook-offs, kids’ activities, parades, food and arts and crafts booths, and an assortment of contests.

Thursday, July 30

The festival begins Thursday evening with no admission charge for the night.

The carnival along with a video game trailer, biergarten, souvenir booth and rodeo will be on tap for the opening night.

Trent Cowie will provide music for dancing from 7 to 10 p.m.

Friday, July 31

On Friday, activities start at 9 a.m. and run until midnight.

An admission of $20 per person will be charged after 6 p.m. and 12 years and under are admitted free.

Musical entertainment lined up for Friday evening include Texas Sundown performing from 6 to 8:30 p.m., LC Rocks, an 80s rock cover band, playing from 8:30 to 10 p.m. and Kate Watson on stage from 10:30 to 12 midnight.

Saturday, Aug. 1

Saturday will again be filled with loads of activities that include the Ranch Run 5K race beginning at 7:30 a.m. as well as BBQ cook-offs, tricycle races, a kiddie parade and various tournaments.

The Matt Bonner Band will start off a list of musical performers under the pavilion from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by the Barditch Hippies from 3 to 5 p.m.

In the cook-off area, Reagan Hicks will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 4 to 5 p.m.

Admission to see these performers are free.

The Texas Unlimited Band will take the stage from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. and will be followed by Bottomland from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m.

Bottomland is a country-rock duo from Southeast Texas who include singer-songwriters Cannon Brand and Justin Lane Gates.

After Bottomland, Casey Donahew an American Texas country music singer will headline the night from 9:45 to 11 p.m. Donahew has had four albums charted on Billboard U.S. country top 10.

Texas Unlimited will return to the stage after Donahew and close out the night from 11:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Gate admission of $30 per person will be charged after 5 p.m. and 12 year-old and under are admitted free.

Sunday, Aug. 2

The festival will continue Sunday with many of the same activities on Saturday as well with the annual Grand Festival Parade taking a route through downtown Schulenburg to Wolters Park starting at 11 a.m.

Mark Halata and Texavia will provide musical entertainment from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

They will be followed by the Original Remnants from 3 to 5 p.m. and Texas Unlimited will end the festival playing from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Admission for Sunday’s activities are free all day.
