Yoakum Heritage Museum opens hospital exhibit May 12
The Yoakum Heritage Museum will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Yoakum Community Hospital (YCH) May 12 with a four-room exhibit showcasing tools, equipment, and other items from a century of health care.
Next Thursday, the display kicks off with live music from John Wayne Schulz, food provided by Callisto Culinary, and lots of local history. In addition to the YCH exhibit, May 12 will be the opening day for a Stein Room with about 60 steins on display and a Military Room that tells the story of over 800 men and women from World War II.
“I felt very privileged to be invited to do this for the hospital,” said Laura Henson, the museum's executive director. “(The hospital) is very important. That’s the beginning of lives here; it’s their experience in the hospital.”
The exhibit will be on display at 312 Simpson Street on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Contact the museum for more information by phone at (361) 293-7022 or email at Yoakumheritagemuseum@gmail.com.
