SISD cancels May election, discuss construction updates

In a very short agenda, the Shiner Independent School District has officially ordered to cancel their 2024 general election at the March 18th meeting. The reason they opted to do this was because SISD had no contested races for school board positions.

YCH named to top 100 critical access hospitals

The Yoakum Community Hospital (YCH) was one of three hospitals in the state of Texas to earn the title of top 100 critical access hospitals in the nation.The top critical access hospital recognition is an index measuring hospital quality, financial outcomes, and in-patient market share.

Grant proposed for Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Program

Bulldogs lose to Blue Raiders, split two games at Franklin Tournament

Despite eight hits, the Bulldogs scored a few runs and it was not enough as they lost to Rice Consolidated 6-3 March 5 at Rice.Rice led 2-0 after one inning and the Bulldogs were within 2-1 in the top of the third before the Blue Raiders extended their lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the inning.

Fifteen Hallettsville FFA/4-H members competed in last week’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Commercial Steer Contest with Jake Ressler named Grand Champion out of 154 competitors. As a result, Ressler was awarded a brand new Ford Truck. Ryan Janak finished third overall, while Rylan Marak was a Top Finalist. The community of Hallettsville was well represented at this year’s Houston Livestock Show Junior Commercial Steer Contest with three of them picking up some top honors, including Hallettsville FFA member Jake Ressler being named Grand Champion.

Ecosystem river tour

The Hallet Oak Gallery held an ecosystem river tour for students from Sweet Home ISD last Thursday, March 7.The purpose of this tour was to have students experience the Lavaca River and learn about its ecosystem through art and science.
