DeWitt commissioners approve proclamations

The DeWitt County Commissioners Court approved several proclamations at the April 13 meeting.The first proclamation established April 26 as Texas Soil and Water Stewardship Week.“Healthy soil and clean water is a benefit to everyone,” DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler said.

Pesticide workshop coming April 30

The Lavaca County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will host a pesticide workshop on Thursday, April 30 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville.The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. with doors opening at 7 a.m and coffee and donuts provided.

Fiddlers’ Frolics next weekend

The Texas State Championship Fiddlers’ Frolics is on tap for next weekend with fiddlers from throughout Texas as well as out of state competing to see who is the top fiddle player.

Court holds Tuesday meeting

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court held its regular meeting on Tuesday and due to deadline for printing the papers, a detailed report of the meeting will appear in next week’s issues.

HISD board sets 26-27 school calendar

The Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees met in a regular meeting Monday evening and approved the 2026-27 school calendar.According to the calendar, the Fall semester will begin on Thursday, Aug. 13 and end on Thursday, Dec. 17.

Law enforcement search following a traffic stop “bailout”

Lavaca County authorities are searching for a suspect who fled a traffic stop this past weekend.According to the Lavaca County Sheriff ’s Office, deputies and assisting agencies began canvassing the area around State Highways 77 South and 111, near the Crossroads/Hope area.

HHS seniors answering the call

On Friday, Mar. 6, four brave Hallettsville High School young men took an oath to serve their country and signed up for the military.The signers included Lucas Hill and Austin Kainer, who enlisted with the US Army, while Jake Woytek and Peyton Prihoda signed up with the United States Marine Corps.
