Shiner Heritage Quilters Guild invites you to enter your beautiful quilts in our 2024 show, “Spring into Quilting” to be held on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church Activity Center, 102 West Church St. (off Highway 90A) in Shiner.

Annual HJLS set for Jan. 19-21

The annual Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show will begin this Sunday, Jan. 14 with the Commercial Heifer portion of the show kicking off the event. According to Hallettsville FFA advisor, Heath Ressler, the commercial heifer record books are due at 1 p.m. to the HJLS committee at the test location.

Newspaper podcast changes format

The podcast formerly known as the “Lavaca County News Review” will now be known as “Local Lowdown." The program will still be co-hosted by Michelle Price and Murray Montgomery. Previously, the podcast gave a weekly preview of items in the local newspapers including the Hallettsville Tribune.

HISD seeks bids on Phase 2 parking lot, SAFE project

Phase 2 of the Hallettsville ISD parking project will begin once bids are in. The board of trustees authorized BEFCO Engineering to advertise for bids at its regular monthly meeting Monday night. “Rain has slowed the progress of Phase 1,” Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Bludau said.

Shiner High School Band students place well at competition

Band students from across the area auditioned at the Region 18/26 High School All-Region contest on December 19, 2023. This contest challenged the students to learn eight scales and two pieces of college level music.

Blood drive next Friday at Shiner High School

Shiner High School Student Council is hosting a blood drive on Friday, January 19 from 12 noon -5 p.m. in the Shiner High school parking lot. Donations benefit South Texas Blood and Tissue Center. You must be 16 to donate. Come save a life!
