Hallettsville Elem. opens STEM Center

In partnership with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, Devon Energy opened its 150th science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) Center at Hallettsville Elementary last Tuesday, Feb. 20.

March proclaimed Quilt Celebration Month

Mayor Fred Hilscher signed a proclamation declaring March as Quilt Celebration Month in Shiner. The “Spring into Quilting” show is Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at the Shiner Methodist Church Activity Center (directly behind the church) off Hwy 90A east.

Shiner band students excel at State Contest

The best high school musicians from across the state traveled to San Antonio to attend the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Clinic and Convention from February 7 - 10.

One Shiner’s blasts from the past is seeing something of resurgence locally with the release of their latest single that songwriter Waldo Boehm of Shiner dubbed “Poor Ol’ Willie.”
1.) I HAVE THE TOWER! When Gustave Eiffel first proposed his design for a massive, towering steel structure in the heart of Paris, many thought he had lost his mind.  Critics sneered that it was an eyesore, while others feared that it wouldn’t even be able to stand upright. But Eiffel persisted, and 1889, his tower was opened to the public. Today, it is an iconic symbol of the city of love—and a testament to the power of bold ideas.
