Court proposes tax rate

Lavaca County tax assessor-collector, Deborah Sevcik, presented the 2023 appraisal roll and tax rate calculations at Monday’s, Aug. 14, Commissioners’ Court meeting. Sevcik told the court the total appraised value is up nearly 20% over last year’s values.

Shiner ISD proposes lowest tax rate in years

By Clayton Kelley, Staff Reporter Taxpayers in Shiner ISD will pay, on average, more than $500 less than they did last year, after members of the school’s board of directors voted last week to move forward with a proposed tax rate of slightly more than 74 cents per $100 valuation.

Lavaca County 4-H honors outstanding Junior and Teen Leaders

The annual Awards Banquet for Lavaca County 4-H was held on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at the Lillie Appelt Johnson Youth Center. Hosted by Hope 4-H, eighty-eight members, adults, and guests attended the evening celebration. The Honorable Keith Mudd, Lavaca County Judge, was present to present all awards.

Gaslight Theatre wraps production of "Drinking Habits"

The final curtain dropped on “Drinking Habits”, the hilarious summer production at the historic Gaslight Theatre in Shiner, Sunday, August 6. Over 1,400 people enjoyed the play during its three-weekend run with over 400 folks on the waiting list hoping to see it.
