MPD gets new building

The Moulton Police Department will be getting a new building for its operations.“The new police department will be right next to the fire department,” Police Chief Daniel Beyer said. “That lot was donated to us by the SouthStar by the owner of the bank, David Kapavick.

YISD Beautification Project update

The Yoakum Independent School District (YISD) Student Council has been making some headway on their ongoing beautification project.“Right now, we just finished up the landscaping of phase three which is the courtyard area in the middle of the school,” Student Council Advisor Amy Robbins said.

Weak earthquake reported

A very weak earthquake was reported early Monday morning with the epicenter located between Shiner and Yoakum, east of Highway 95. According to the database.earth website, the quake took place at 9:12 p.m. Sunday evening, March 30 and was considered light in magnitude registering 1.6.

Commissioners support new district court

April: Child Abuse Prevention Month

At the Tuesday, March 25 Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court meeting, the court approved a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Lavaca County presented state resolution

On Monday, March 17, a contingency of county officials and residents traveled to Austin and took part in Lavaca County Day at the Capitol.The group enjoyed a day of not only touring the Capitol building, but also meeting with District 18 state senator Lois Kolkhorst and District 30 representative A.

County tax office closed April 9

The Lavaca County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office will be closed on Wednesday, April 9.According to tax assessor-collector, Deborah A. Sevcik, her office will be closed due to her and her office staff attending a regional meeting for important motor vehicle and property tax updates.

Burn ban lifted

Through an executive order issued by County Judge Keith Mudd, the burn ban for Lavaca County was removed Monday, March 31.In the order, Mudd said due to precipitation having fallen over the past 24 hours, he is lifting the burn ban.
