Youth, Seniors and Out-of-State winners of Fiddlers' Frolic

Four people took home the prize of the Youth, Senior and Out-of-State Divisions at the 55th Annual Fiddlers Frolic which occurred the last weekend of April.Freshman and Junior DivisionKids from as young as 5 years old to 15 years old competed in the Freshman and Junior Texas Division.

April showers bring good rain totals

April is one of the year’s wetter months with 4.85 inches on average. Several rounds of showers during the month led to soaking precip which put a dent in the ongoing drought. To date the city is at 9.93 inches which is 2.38 inches behind the normal average of 11.31 inches.

Bell Award winners at HHS

Members of the Lavaca County grand Jury handed down 13 felony indictments for the month of April 2026.Receiving indictments for April were:• Luis Angel Rodriguez Barrera for burglary.• Stephon Monroe Bradley Sr. for violating bond.• Joe Frank Castillo for controlled substance possession.

Spring is here and with the season snakes start making their appearance as they come out of hibernation from winter.As a result, snake bites, especially from a venomous snake tend to rise with most encounters taking place near homes.

Three defendants placed on probation, one placed in custody

Three defendants were placed on probation Monday in connection with an aggravated assault in the Sweet Home area, according to the county attorney’s office.Presiding over a light docket, Judge William D. Old III ordered each defendant to serve 30 days in the county jail as a condition of probation.

Accident causes vehicle to overturn

A two-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon caused one of the vehicles to end upside down on its roof.According to the Hallettsville Police Department officers responded to the accident in the 400 block of N. Texana St. around 1:40 p.m.
