Court adopts tax rate/approves budget

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met Monday morning and set the 2024 property tax rate and the 2024-25 county budget.Prior to the regular meeting, the court held a public hearing on continued collection of records management/preservation fees in the county clerk’s office.

Hallettsville city council members approved the 2024-25 city budget and its funding mechanism in a special called meeting Monday evening at city hall.Monday’s meeting followed a public hearing on the budget held Aug. 19, which itself followed council’s approval of the proposed budget numbers on Aug.

Court enacts burn ban at Monday’s meeting

MISD designated Healthy South Texas Campus

Moulton ISD received a proclamation designating MISD as a Healthy South Texas Campus at the Aug. 14 meeting.“The Healthy South Texas Program is an initiative that reaches 27 counties in South Texas,” County Extension Agent Natalie Knesek said.

City Council hears school zone concern

The Yoakum City Council heard a request from a concerned citizen regarding the placement of a school zone area on East Gonzales St. at the Aug. 13 meeting.Harvey Jenkins argued because the Learning Tree, 124 E. Gonzales St., is located in the area that a school zone sign should be put into place.

Local school student enrollment numbers reported

The 2024-25 school year started recently, with the Yoakum Independent School District and Sweet Home ISD and other schools reporting their student enrollment numbers.For Yoakum ISD, a total of 176 students enrolled in the Primary Annex School.

City council to approve budget, tax rate Aug. 26

The Hallettsville City Council set Monday, August 26 as the date to adopt the 2025 budget and 2024 tax rate.The proposed tax is 45.81 cents per $100 valuation. The no-new tax rate is 25.37 cents and the voter approval rate is 47.47.
