Tips for being safe in school zones

As summer vacation comes to an end for students, the 2024-25 school year will beginning for area schools with some starting this week and the remainder next week.Whether a motorist, student or pedestrian, school zone safety is of utmost importance as the new school year starts.

Lavaca Area Moms hosts ISR graduation, drowning awareness banquet

The Lavaca Area Moms Inc. hosted its second annual Infant Swimming Resource graduation and drowning awareness banquet last Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hallettsville.  68 children ranging from eight months to five years old, graduated from their swim lessons.
Lavaca County veterans have been asked to turn out at Monday's commissioners court in a show of support for the county's talks on hiring a new veterans service officer. A committee of local veterans was appointed last month and from what we hear, a nomination should be forthcoming at that meeting.

A leader with a local veteran service group was urging former military personnel to join him at next week’s planned commissioners court meeting in Hallettsville in a show of support for the planned talks about appointing a local veteran’s service officer.

Gaslight award winners

The Shiner Gaslight Theatre concluded the run of the outstanding comedy “In Praise of Miss Brown” on Sunday, August 4. Awards for outstanding work voted by the cast and crew were presented after the curtain call.
Shiner American Legion Post 201 held an awards night on Monday, July 22. The Shiner Police Department, Shiner EMS, and the Shiner Fire Department were presented with donations to help in their departments. Pictured are, left to right, Jake Tollette of the Shiner EMS, Ronnie Leck, Vice Commander, and Wayne Denson, Shiner Police Chief. Shiner Fire Department will receive their donation at a later time. We thank these First Responders for the work they do to keep our community safe.

Shiner American Legion Post #201 holds awards night

Shiner American Legion Post 201 has been awarded a Certificate and Guide-on for the flag for 100% retention in 2024. The National American Legion has awarded Post 201 a Certificate for 105%, meaning the Post recruited more members than it had in 2023.

City reviews water permit process

The Moulton City Council discussed a permit process for new water service connections at the July 9 meeting.“There was a discussion, but no action on this item,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said. “What this is regarding is new service taps.
