Scott M. Bannert

Scott Michael Bannert, 48, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022 at his home. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, June 28 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel in Katy. A rosary was recited at 3 p.m.  Tuesday, followed by funeral services at 3:30 p.m.

Loraine Riedle Monse

Loraine Riedle Monse, 96, passed away June 23. She was born Sept. 9, 1925 in Yoakum to the late Edward and Hilda (Schmidt) Riedle. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and was married to Norman Monse for 73 years until his passing in 2020.

Dennis Ray Schacherl

Dennis Ray Schacherl was born on July 4, 1950 and passed away on June 21, 2022 at the age of 71.   Dennis was born at Strieder Hospital in Moulton, to Edwin and Edith (Roznovsky) Schacherl.   On May 16, 1987, he married Kathleen Heinrich.

LaVerne “Pete” Mikulenka

LaVerne “Pete” Mikulenka, 96, of Columbus passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in Columbus. She was born in Shaws Bend, Texas on March 5, 1926 to Fred Chollett and Ida (Balzar) Chollett.  On Jan. 1, 1946 she married James “Jimmie” Mikulenka.

Broderick Lavar Mathis

Broderick Lavar Mathis, 35, left this world suddenly after a car accident on June 13. He was born June 12, 1987 in Yoakum to Stayton Ford and Cassandra Franklin. He graduated from Yoakum High School and worked in the oilfield.

Judy McCrumb Wagner

Judy McCrumb Wagner, 71, passed away after a sudden illness on Thursday, June 16, 2022.  She was born Oct. 15, 1950 in Hallettsville to parents, Herbert and Martha Pohl McCrumb.  She attended Hallettsville Public Schools and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1969.

Mary Alice Meyer

Mary Alice Meyer passed away peacefully in San Antonio on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.   She was born in Moulton Oct. 28, 1936.   In her teens, she moved to San Antonio and attended Thomas Edison High School.

 Magdalen Ann Potcinske

   Magdalen Ann Potcinske, 86, of Victoria, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022.   She was born Oct.  28, 1935 in Sweet Home, to Joseph J. and Stazie Petru.   After obtaining her GED, Magdalen entered nursing school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse, and worked at area hospitals.

Jimmie Wayne Giles

Jimmie Wayne Giles, age 67, passed away June 8. He was the youngest of 15 children born on Feb. 6, 1955 in Yoakum to the late Horace and Lillian Jones Giles.  He went to Yoakum High School. He was a proud veteran and retired from the United States Army.

Mary Jane Gallia

Mary Jane Gallia, 103, of Shiner, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022.   She was born in Lavaca County on March 20, 1919, to John A. and Agnes Recek Drexler.   Mary is survived by two daughters, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild.
