Moulton softball: Kittens end historical season with extra-inning loss to Brookeland

Brookeland scored in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs for the walk-off score 6-5 against Moulton in the state semifinals Thursday in New Caney.
It was the Kittens’ first-ever trip to state semifinals and they narrowly missed out on a historical first trip to the state championship game.
Brookeland led 1-0 after one inning and the Kittens outscored them 4-3 in the third for a 4-4 tie.
Brookeland scored one run in the fifth inning and Moulton plated one run in the sixth inning.
Taylor Self led the Kittens batting as she hit 3-for-4 with one run; Araceli Vasquez got two hits with one run and one double; Madison Rothbauer was 2-for-4; Karsyn Blahuta doubled, scored one run and two two RBI; Katie Richter doubled, scored one run and brought in one run.
Bethany Kram pitched 7 2/3 innings with six runs on 11 hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
Richter led the defense with 12 putouts.
