Shiner football: Industrial scores late to edge SHS

The Industrial Cobras scored twice in the final 90 seconds of the game to defeat the Shiner Comanches 41-34 Friday in Industrial.
After Cooper Marting scored on a 23-yard run with 1:19 left in the fourth quarter, the Industrial defense got an interception and quarterback Ashton Garza scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 3-yard run with just eight seconds left.
After a scoreless first quarter, Shiner drew first blood with an 8-yard pass from Carson Schuette to Rakin Wallace and Bode Werner tacked on the extra point early in the second.
Shiner went ahead 14-0 on a 9-yard run by Schuette with 3:58 left in the first half. The Cobras got on the board with a 65-yard run by Garza at the 3:32 mark of the second.
Garza had a 7-yard run less than three minutes into the second half to knot the game at 14-14.
Schuette then scored on a 59-yard run for a 20-14 lead and Industrial answered with a 19-yard run by Garza to give the Cobras a 21-20 lead.
Schuette put Shiner ahead 26-21 with his third rushing touchdown but Industrial stopped the two-point play.
At the end of the third, Garza had a 64-yard run and Industrial failed the two-point pass to lead Shiner 27-26.  A 1-yard run by Wallace with 4:53 left in the game and he also carried the ball on the two-point play re-established Shiner’s lead 34-27.
Schuette had a productive game, taking part in four of Shiner’s five touchdowns as he ran for 84 yards and completed 8-of-12 passes for 187 yards. Trace Bishop ran for 49 yards and led Shiner in receiving with four receptions for 145 yards. Wallace ran for 48 yards and one touchdown in addition to his receiving touchdown.
For Industrial, Garza ran for 227 yards and five touchdowns.
