Shiner, St. Paul football: Comanches host Flatonia; SP is at Rosehill Christian

The Comanches host Flatonia and St. Paul travels to Tomball Rosehill Christian in both schools’ penultimate game of the regular season.
Flatonia at Shiner
The Comanches host the neighboring Bulldogs for their final regular-season home game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Comanches Stadium.
Flatonia put themselves into a good spot for playoffs with a win over Kenedy last week
“Flatonia has been playing very well lately and got a big win over the Lions,” Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said.
The ‘Dogs (4-3, 2-1) are putting up 29.28 points on the board and are giving up 28.4 points a game.
Flatonia runs the football out of the spread, led by running back Adrian Anderson and quarterback Boston Targac.
“Our defense needs to key on Anderson and stop him. He has had some good games lately,” Boedeker said.
The Flatonia defensive linemen are bigger than Shiner’s offensive lineman but not by much.
“It will come down to who can get a good push up front,” Boedeker said. “We need to take good angles and block well for our offensive back. We have to have no turnovers.”
St. Paul at Tomball Rosehill Christian
The Cards hit the road once more time for the regular season as they play at Tomball Rosehill Christian on Friday.
The Eagles are 7-1 and 2-1 in district, and are scoring 44.8 points per game and allowing just 10.8 points a game.
“They are a good football team with a good record and their only district loss is to Temple Central Texas Christian. Rosehill will likely make a good playoff run,” St. Paul head coach Jake Wachsmuth said.
Rosehill Christian averages 245 yards rushing yards per game; Benjamin Moore has rushed for 752 yards on 87 carries and 12 touchdowns; Caleb Davila had 576 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
Hudson Hurst has completed 49-of-85 passes for 799 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Davila has 328 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
“We played well defensively in our last game but we did give up a few big plays,” Wachsmuth said. “We just need to keep working to fix things and not give up big plays.”
Defensivley, Devyn Gay has 56 tackles, 37 solo tackles, 19 assists and five tackles for loss. Bo Smith had 14 sacks. Landon Henderson has intercepted five passes.
“We missed a lot of opportunities in both the running game and passing game against CTC,” Wachsmuth said. “It was a team effort. Sometimes we did not block correctly and other times, missed blocks. Doing the right things in practice will help us improve and get consistent.”
