YHS Lady Bulldog Softball Team wins bi-district, headed to area playoffs

The Yoakum High School (YHS) Lady Bulldogs beat Tidehaven 7-5 in a playoff for third place on April and then beat Nixon 12-2 on April 26 in the bi-district round.

Yoakum will face Jourdanton in the area round in a best-of-three-series. Game one will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in Jourdanton. Game 2 will be Friday at 5 in Yoakum and Game 3, if neccessary, will follow Game 2.

YOAKUM 7, TIDEHAVEN 5

The Lady Bulldogs got separation late in the game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-3 lead and went up 7-3 in after six innings. Tidehaven brought in two runs in the seventh.

Yoakum led 2-0 after one frame and scored one run in the second before Tidehaven outscored the Lady ‘Dogs, 2-1 in the third to get within 4-2 and then added a run in the top of the fourth.

Olivia Fojt led Yoakum at the plate by going 3-for-4 with three runs and a double.

YOAKUM 12, NIXON-SMILEY 2

The Lady ‘Dogs plated eight runs in the top of the fourth to help secure a win over the Lady Mustangs Friday in Flatonia.

Yoakum went up 2-0 after one inning and Nixon cut the lead to 2-1 after three frames.

Yoakum went up 12-1 in the top of the fifth and the Lady Mustangs got within 12-2 in the top of the fifth frame.

Yoakum had three batters that got three hits: Steinmann went 3-for-4, two doubles and five RBI. Pekar hit 3-for-3, two doubles, run, two RBI and Faith McCloud hit 3-for-4 with RBI and three runs.
