St. Paul girl's basketball: Lady Cardinals rally to upend Waldorf

The Lady Cardinals needed a 25-17 second-half to avoid their first district loss, pulling away from Austin Waldorf 38-34 on the road Friday. The Lady Roadrunners led 16-11 after the first quarter and St. Paul scored two of the three points in the second box to trail 17-13 at halftime.

St. Paul girls cross country, girls track: Cerny to continue XC, track at Sam Houston St.

Her  discovery of an opportunity to compete at the college level was unusual, in her words. St. Paul senior Brooke Cerny will run cross country and compete in track and field next school year at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

Lady Bulldogs struggle to find points in recent loss

In trying to find a team identity, the Yoakum Lady Bulldogs also discovered they need to find ways to put points on the board. Yoakum made just nine field goals and scored just 25 points in a 43-25 loss to rival Hallettsville Jan. 2 at Bulldog Gymnasium.

Bulldogs win against Brahmas Jan. 2 in Yoakum

The Yoakum Bulldogs were not really themselves during their last action of 2023 but came back to themselves in their first game of 2024. With a 21-point performance from X’Zavier Barnett, Yoakum got a 46-37 district win against rival Hallettsville on Jan. 2 at Bulldog Gymnasium.

Bulldogs rally to edge Tidehaven Tigers in overtime

Jamar Hopkins scored 19 points and Zach Taylor dropped in 16 points to lead Yoakum boys basketball team to a 52-50 win at Tidehaven in overtime. The Tigers posted a 21-19 lead after the first quarter and the teams each scored seven points in the second quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs soccer team won two, lost two and tied one game in their home tournament last Thursday through Friday, getting third place. YOAKUM 4, VICTORIA ST.

Lady Brahmas begin soccer season

The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas’ 2024 soccer season began Thursday in the Yoakum Tournament. The tournament ran through Saturday. The LB lost to El Campo 3-0 in the first match Thursday and then tied Caldwell 1-1, with Jordan Whitley scoring the goal. Friday, Hallettsville and Yoakum tied 0-0.

'Nettes lose in championship game in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON – The Sacred Heart Indianettes settled for second place in the Bloomington Tournament after a 56-44 loss to the host Lady Bobcats Friday, Dec. 29. A high-scoring first period saw Bloomington take an 18-12 lead.
