YHS varsity boys basketball edge alumni 53-52 in charity game

The Yoakum Bulldogs Varsity Boys Basketball Team held an Alumni Game on Dec. 19. Proceeds from the game went to several families in Yoakum. Bulldogs Head Coach Roderick Taylor said $485 in cash was collected as well as $700 worth of clothes and toys, and more was provided to 25 families.

Sacred Heart Indians All-State, All District

Sacred Heart had its share of players on the TAPPS Division IV allstate team and on the all district team. • Nic Angerstein was a first team choice both as a receiver/place kicker/ punter/defensive back. • Brady Haas was a first team all-state as a linebacker and second team halfback.

Shiner volleyball: Shiner spikers win Academic All-State

Five Lady Comanche volleyball seniors received Academic awards. Charlotte Grosenbacher was named to the Elite Academic All-State team. Rylee Vancura was picked for the First Team. Brooke Palmer and Aimee Mitchon each got Second Team. Chelsea Whiddon got Honorable Mention.

Shiner girls basketball: Shiner girls rout Weimar to improve to 3-0 in district

WEIMAR — The Shiner Lady Comanches corralled Weimar 45-17 Dec. 19 to improve to 3-0 in district play. The defensive pressure applied by the Lady Comanches resulted in plenty of points on the board.

Shiner boys basketball: Comanches rebound to beat WHS

WEIMAR —  Basketball teams have both bad and good nights. Dec. 15 at home against Bloomington was a bad night for the Shiner Comanches; Dec. 19 in Weimar was a good night.

Council tables talks on Yoakum Little League Park

A spokesman from Yoakum Little League asked city aldermen to approve a funding reallocation last week to make available some $10,000 in reserve funds to upgrade their restroom facilities at the city’s ballfields ahead of the upcoming baseball season.

Lady Bulldogs win against Industrial

The Lady Bulldogs went 1-1 in two district games last week at Industrial and at Columbus. YOAKUM 40, INDUSTRIAL 18 The Lady Bulldogs scored 20 points in each half against the Lady Cobras 40-18 on Dec. 12.

YHS Bulldogs win at home against Sandcrabs

The Yoakum High School (YHS) Bulldogs did not leave anything unchecked on the Port Lavaca Calhoun game list X’Zavier Barnett made two dozen points as the Bulldogs romped to a 65- 34 win Dec. 12 at Bulldog Gymnasium, excelling in all areas of the game.
